Is 7 billion people cause for concern? October 17, 2011

Tower of Babel

Early practice for New York City

Once again there is a disaster looming on the horizon. The latest – man-made global warming – is winding down now that the panic is over and everyone realizes that it was all a bunch of nothing, so instead of working on the real challenges that we face everyday, such as the on-going slaughter of millions of babies in the womb, the ritual sacrificing of children in Uganda to witchcraft, the glorification of the sin homosexuality and a democratic government bent on the destruction of this country, instead of those real issues they have to have another disaster to scare people with in the hopes that the frightened masses will follow their Marxist lead into an idealized society. That latest disaster has been around before but there is a new number to go with it. According to those who track such things the global population will reach seven billion this month.

Check out the latest headlines…

With 7 billion on earth, a huge task before us

Challenges loom as world population hits 7 billion

These headlines and the following stories are designed to make you worry and fear that overpopulation will end life as we know it on planet Earth.

“The consequences of a world crowded with 7 billion people are enormous. And unless the world population stabilizes during the 21st century, the consequences for humanity could be grim.”

Sentences like that are clearly there to instill fear. Now I’m not arguing that seven billion people is not a challenge – I’m arguing that it does not deserve panic. We live on a big world. There is room for everyone, just take a drive across the United States and you will see vast regions that are not populated. The same can be found on any other continent.  So room for all of us is not the problem. They base their fear-mongering on our resources: food and water. Granted, there are many areas without fresh water and therefore no agriculture but with today’s technology and engineering those problems really are not problems – they are solvable. The problem is those governments who suppress their population to remain in power. Most of the third-world poverty is created by corrupt governments who do not allow the kind of civil engineering that would bring water and develop arid land. But we are too politically correct to name the real hindrances to this kind of solution.

The other aspect of this number being so scary for people is what I would call the “Babel-effect”. People to this day do not spread out, they clump together and thereby overpopulate cities, creating slums. So people living in these overpopulated cities naturally think that our planet is doomed from too many people when they read these stories (The reality is our planet is doomed because of sin and rebellion against God – not overpopulation).

Do you remember the story of the Tower of Babel in Genesis? This is found in chapter 11. The post-flood population, after Noah, gathered in the plain of Shinar and decided to stay and build a city and then a tower “whose top is in the heavens”. God confused the language and dispersed the people. Most people believe that God did this for the sin of pride in building the tower, but God really did this because the earths population was being disobedient and not filling the earth, as commanded in chapter 9 verse 1.  To this day people still want to gather and stay together as they did then, refusing to spread out and “fill the earth”. Is it any wonder they feel over-crowded?

Don’t be fooled by these headlines and stories, our planet is not being over-populated. They said the same thing around the five billion mark and then the six billion mark. They’ll dig it out and dust it off when it reaches the eight billion mark. All anyone has to do is open their Bible and they will learn what is in store for us and our planet. If there was any danger in over-populating Earth, God would have told us to be fruitful and multiply but stop when you reach so many billion. That this is used to scare us for political and / or scientific gain is despicable. The truth of the matter is that nothing of this sort is in the plan of God for us…

We will not self destruct from nuclear war.

We will not flood our planet by melting the polar caps.

We will not die off because we over-populated and used up all our natural resources.

We will not become extinct from a planet killing asteroid.

Our sun will not supernova and destroy us.

We will not be invaded by a parasitic species of alien bent on human domination and enslavement.

We will not evolve into something else.

We will also not be killed off by some super-immune virus.

There are specific events that will occur on earth and to us. These are in God’s plan. Here are a few:

who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1: 11

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.  And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.  The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.  Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20: 11-15

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Revelation 21: 1
