ABC’s The River; up a creek without a brain February 8, 2012

Like millions of other gullible people I watched the 2 hour premier of ABC’s The River last night. Okay, I didn’t watch the full 2 hours. In fact I didn’t even make it through the first hour before we turned the channel. What a big disappointment.

I stopped watching, not because I got scared, but because movies and shows about the paranormal are totally, mind-numbingly dumb. Give me a break.

I am sure that ABC is wanting to capitalize on the success of all the Paranormal movies that are currently creeping people out all over the place, but they can’t come up with an exciting, thrilling storyline without resorting to these stupid concepts? What ever happened to good old fashioned monsters and crazy people running around snatching people to make a good scary show? Dragonfly’s crawling in a girl’s mouth to possess her and make another woman belief it is the spirit of her missing husband, conveniently shown through silly camera glitches? I was done watching after that. Paranormal doesn’t scare me nor interest me.

The reason is because I view these things from a Biblical perspective. I know that demonic activity has no power over me or those who claim Christ as their Lord and Savior. To continue making stories about the spirits of dead people attacking and killing others and the use magic and occult practices simply exposes the producer’s ignorance of how these things really work. Paranormal activity is not magic and the spirits of dead people. It is demonic activity whose sole purpose is to deceive and prevent people from knowing the truth about God and His plan of Salvation. For people to be frightened by this stuff shows the deceptive power of Satan and his fallen angle cohorts. He wants you to believe that he is all powerful and there is nothing you can do to fight him or his scary antics. Why do you think the vast majority of scary movies use the paranormal with demonic activity and weak religious priests battling them and losing? Satan wants you to believe he’s the big dog.

The reality is that Satan is a defeated charlatan. He cannot create. He has no real power. He doesn’t win in the end. His fate has been sealed for a long time and all his activity is nothing more than an attempt to delay the inevitable. In order to deceive people he uses parlor tricks; magic, spirits, ghosts, bumps in the night, floating objects and flying people. He capitalizes on the ignorance of people and their enslavement to sin. That is why shows like The River are so popular. The idea of these things really happening scares people who don’t know the truth.

The truth is Satan and his demon hordes lose in the end. They are all cast into the lake of fire and tormented for eternity. He is bound and chained for a thousand years before this happens by another angel, Michael. Another angel has power over Satan. So naturally he wants you to believe that the battle is really between him and God and that the sometimes he has the upper hand. He uses Hollywood directors and producers to further this idea and thereby deceive people into thinking God really isn’t who He says that He is. Nothing has changed since the garden of Eden – he is still telling the same old lie and Hollywood is banking on it.

Do yourself a favor and ignore this paranormal garbage. Their are no spirits and magic that has power over you. It is all deception.

The Bible says in James 4: “resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Does that sound like Satan has power over you? of course not.

The Bible also says: 1 John 4:4
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

The River is a big disappointment because it seeks to give power to the unknown, hoping that this will feed the desire to be frightened for a cheap thrill. In my opinion it misses the mark in the fear department by miles and this stuff is not unknown, we know what is really going on and what is going to happen.

Don’t be fooled by this stuff. It’s not scary and it’s not even interesting and not even well made.

The River is a waste of valuable time. Don’t waste yours on it.
