About number four
As the last of four brothers you would think the genetics would have saved something special for me. Alas, it was not to be.
My three brothers still have their hair – I don’t.
My three brothers are quite intelligent – I’m not.
My three brothers are creative and excellent craftsman – what’s a craft?
The first brother is a master in classic automobile upholstery and he plays drums, the second brother is a master craftsman in home remodel and plays guitar, and the third brother has written 5 novels and is a photographer.
Me? I’m just the fourth brother.
Well Kevin, other than the hair part, I have to disagree. We all can find others to compare ourselves to who we can point to and say “see, I’m not that good, I’m not that talented, I’m not that bright…” As a musician, a singer, and a songwriter I often fall into the trap of comparing myself. I’m also, probably like you, a bit of a perfectionist. It’s a matter of perspective really. I believe God gives us the gifts and talents we have in the measure we need to serve him where he’s placed us. Seriously, If I compare myself to Phil Keaggy, I might as well put the guitar down and shut up! But that’s not what I’ve been called to do. Be encouraged, brother number four! I’ve read some of your words and seen examples of your craftsmanship. God is using you and will continue to do so!
God Bless, and I look forward to reading more.
Aaron
Why thank you very much Mr. MacMillan. You are too kind.
I realize I should have given my comments a more light-hearted touch so they wouldn’t come across so serious.
I was attempting a bit of tongue-in-cheek.
but I admit that there is a lot of true feeling in there.
Thanks again.
Just discovered your blog, Kevin, thanks to you mentioning it in your Christmas letter. I haven’t gone to my Yahoo account in maybe a year! So at least I saw your letter before NEXT Christmas!
I’m definitely going to be checking out your blog regularly now. I LOVE your writing! I noticed that you have “The Pioneer Woman” on your blogroll. I discovered Lee Drummond awhile back too – really a great site, huh?
I’ve thought of starting a personal blog myself. So I can write more creatively than I do for work.
Thanks for sharing your humor with the rest of the world like this!
Take care . . .
Chris
Thanks for your kind words, Chris. That is precisely why I started a blog – for the practice. I started the blog in July and only have about 50 posts, I think, so I hope after a year or so, my writing will have improved substantially and maybe I’ll have more subscribers. It’s fun.
If you start one, be sure to let me know so I can follow it, too.
Kevin
OK, will let you know. I think you’ve inspired me to get going with the blog now. Is this a WordPress site? I know Blogger is free, but am not sure I want to use that.
By the way, 50 posts within 6 months is pretty good! Tom hasn’t posted anything to his blog for several months now, but maybe that’s partly coz he’s been so busy w/ school this semester.
Want to start a blog for my business too.
Anyway, hope to see you guys again soon!
- Chris
DUDE! cut that crud out! You are one of the top 3 most respected (by me, so take that for what its worth) people i’ve EVER known!! I won’t have you bashing yourself like this! Now you must come over and help me setup my aquarium as a punishment! No, no back talk, get your butt over here and get to work! =]
Some quotes from ppl far smarter than I and one from me! =]

But an accurate definition of the self is impossible. You are more than you realize, more than you can define. And the more time you spend trying to nail down the definition, the less time you spend living right now. … Your past is not your identity… You, living now, is your identity.–George Lawrence-Ell
By your own soul, learn to live
And if men thwart you take no heed.
If men hate you have no care.
Sing your song, dream your dream,
Hope your hope and pray your prayer.–Parkenham Beatty
Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do.–Pope John XXIII
I have had more trouble with myself than with any other man I’ve met.–Dwight Moody
It is never too late to be what you might have been.–George Eliot
and finally, the most profound, inspiring and true quote that i can find!
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.–Dr. Suess
Do you think God looks on his creation and thinks anything other than, I created Kevin, from scratch and i’m proud. – JG!
You are not just the fourth brother. God is so proud and pleased with you and He made you exactly what you are right now.
Why thank you Angelicadedios. Those are very kind words. and I agree with you. Acts 13: 48 tells us that as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. You are also counted among those appointed. May the Lord bless and keep you.
